These Recommendations have been prepared by drawing on the experience of operators of liquefied gas carriers, jetty design engineers, naval architects, ship constructors and equipment manufacturers, The changes which have been introduced in this Second Edition have been based in part on the analysis of a comprehensive questionnaire to which many shipowners and gas carrier terminal operators responded in 1987.
They also reflect the demand for optimum spacing, heights, etc, brought about by the increasing use of rigid cargo arms, particularly for refrigerated vessels, incorporating emergency shutdown systems to give spill and cargo arm protection.
The Recommendations are intended to serve as a guideline to the owners, operators and builders of liquefied gas carriers and to those responsible for the design and operation of terminals handling liqudfied gas carriers.
