This gudie to the training and assessment of Marine Terminal staff makes recommendations designed to assist Marine Terminal Managers in achieving and maintaining the highest practical standards of competence of their staff. It should be noted, however, that this guide does not relate to cargoes other than crude oil and petroleum products which may be carried in tankers or combination carriers. It does not cover the transfer of chemicals or liquefied gases as these are subject to other industry guidelines.
The purpose of this guide is to enable Marine Terminal Managers to:
◈ determine the competencies they require for each Level of Marine Terminal staff
◈ assess the competence of each member of their Marine Terminal staff
◈ establish the Training Needs for each member of staff
◈ develop appropriate training/self-help programmes to satisfy the Training Needs
◈ use a range of materials provided in the Information & Training Resource Pact(Volume 2 of this Publication).
