OIL TANKER MANIFOLDS
AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT
In this Fourth Edition, no substantive changes have been made to the previously-published guidance relating to cargo and bunker manifolds and associated equipment. However, in order to take account of the requirement at a limited number of terminals for tankers in certain trades to transfer cargo vapours ashore, a new Annex has been included containing recommendations for vapour manifolds. It is stressed that these Annexed recommendations are provided purely for the guidance of those operators whose ships may trade to terminals required to install vapour collection systems. The recommendations supplement the uniform safety design standards for marine vapour recovery systems being developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the regulations for marine vapour control systems promulgated by the United States Coast Guard in 1990. The recommendations relate only to the provision of a uniform manifold arrangement and do not address other issues associated with vapour transfer systems such as the need to provide safeguards to prevent or control vapour release or to prevent fire and explosion.
